Hats are in!
The hats that are being donated by Jane Higgins Resort Wear and Local Color have arrived! They will be distributed this Saturday at the 9:00 am Zumba class at Yacht Haven Grande to all the participants that have paid their registration fee. There are several colors to choose from and we plan to decorate them with glitter and whatever else you'd like to jazz it up.

Another Troupe Update
As usual, a couple of things...
1. Yes, we'll have a brief meeting this morning (Sat. April 7th) after the 9am Zumba class at YHG.
2. For clothing options, and other troupe information you may have missed (if you did not receive the previous 7 e-mails), go to http://stthomaszumba.blogspot.com/ or contact me. It is not too late to join. If you're considering joining, please see customized clothing options (t-shirt, bottom) on the blog.
3. We have decided on a troupe fee (to cover the cost of a DJ, food, decorations, etc.): $50.00/per person. We were working hard to get it down to $40.00, but unfortunately, the sound system donated by Antilles may not be adequate for our needs, increasing our expenses. Please pay this nominal fee as soon as possible, but no later than Saturday, April 14, 2012.
4. Thank you to troupe members who have referred DJs to us. We're working with a couple of them to see what we can get for the best price. Thanks again!
5. If anyone would like to make a monetary contribution to the troupe, please let me know. We sure could use it to supplement this nominal troupe fee!
6. After the Easter holidays, we will get the Carnival music from our hired DJ (one more song for performances at Emancipation Gardens & Lionel Roberts Stadium). We hope to have a Carnival song for Joni's choreography next week. Practice times and videotaped choreography are coming, we promise!
7. We're official! Our Carnival application was turned in at the Carnival Office on Monday, April 2, 2012 (troupe under 50 / competing entry).
8. For those who ordered Zumba wear from zumba.com, your items have been shipped to the VI and should arrive some time next week. Thanks, Joni! For those who are owed refunds, you will receive more information via a separate e-mail.
9. I found (and bought) a pair of these funky, flourescent shoelaces (45 inches) to wear on parade day (see below). And guess what? They're only $1.99 @ Payless! (Mine were bought @ the Wheatley Center location.)
I think that's about it, for now... (Remind me if I've forgotten something major. Thanks!)
Peace, Zumba love, (and Easter blessings, for those who celebrate the holy day).

Calling all DJ's
The St. Thomas Zumba Troupe is looking for a DJ for the Carnival Parade. If you know anyone that would be interested, please comment here or get a hold of one of the Zumba instructors. We had one lined up but it's not working out. So we really need to find a new one. Just submit your price and contact information and someone will be in touch. Thanks!

Troupe Update
Just a couple of things to mention (updates, if you will):
- All orders have been shipped (zumba.com, headbands, t-shirt, pants). Yippee!! Thanks Clo & Joni for helping with the orders.
- Waiting for word on how much the zumba.com order will cost to ship from Joni's relative in the states to the VI. Some of you will be owed refunds once this final cost has been deducted (since some items were lower in price for Zumba instructors). You will receive separate e-mails about this. You can choose to use the refund to defray the cost of the troupe fee (once that is determined) or get your money back, up to you.
- No, it's not too late to join the troupe. But if you need to order Zumba wear, act fast! Contact Joni or Cynthia or leave a comment on the blog.
- If anyone claims to have signed up (supplied their e-mail address) and are not getting our e-mails, please have them check their "spam" (spam folder). For some, our e-mails have been hiding there. Thanks! If you want to be added to the mailing list, you can leave a comment on this post with your email address.
- Clothing & Decoration Committee: A proposed budget is needed. Please forward cost estimates no later than Friday. If you would like to assist with this committee, know how to design a front banner for the parade, know two girls (age 12-16) who can carry the front banner (some Zumbatomic kids, perhaps), or have other ideas, contact Clo. Members: Clo, Patrice, Jane H., Wanda, Debbie, Joni, Cynthia, Monique, Joan Ann, Gaynel.
- Food & Drink Committee: A proposed budget is needed. Please forward cost estimates no later than Friday. If you would like to assist with this committee, have a larger cooler you can donate (for cold drinks), or have other ideas, contact Maudlyn. Members: Maudlyn, Toni, Gwendolyn, Wanda.
- Sponsorship & Monetary Donation Commitee: We have 3 sponsors thus far: Jane Higgins Resortwear, Local Color & Jackson Complex @ Antilles School. Thank you, sponsors! We have 3 other businesses that are pending. If you know of someone or some company that might care to donate or sponsor us and need a sponsorship (donation) letter, please let me know. Thanks!
- Music, Choreography & Truck Committee: We need a donation of two trucks for the parade (one for music, one for food & drinks). Jay (Jane H's husband) has volunteered as a driver. Thanks, Jane & Jay! We need one more volunteer driver. We have a sound system donation. Hooray!! The DJ and I will hopefully look it over (this week) to clarify specs and additional technical equipment, if any. This committee's budget will be figured into the overall troupe costs (i.e., cost of DJ, cost of gas/diesel for generator, etc.). The person who said they had a generator during our first meeting on Saturday, March 17th (Joni or Wanda, I think), please contact me so I can estimate the gas or diesel costs on parade day. Thanks! Members: All Z instructors, Joan Ann, Jane H., Monique, Velma, Gaynel. And one more thing: Carnival music is coming soon (for your listening & selection)!
- Carnival Troupe leaders meeting this Thursday (March 29, 2012), CAHS Cafeteria, 5:30 pm (I think). Last week's date was due to a Daily News misprint. Troupe members scheduled to attend: Monique & Joan Ann. If your schedule changes ladies, let me know so someone else can attend. Thanks!
- Carnival Troupe application: We have it already. We will complete and submit by Monday, April 2, 2012.
- Next troupe meeting: You guessed it -- Saturday, March 31, 2012 @ YHG after 9am Zumba class (approx. 10am). Join the party (it's free) and stay for drinks afterwards (just kidding...about the drinks, that is!).
- Speaking about "partying"...I gotta say: Thank you to the fierce, committed Zumba ladies of St. Thomas who withstood the pouring downpour that cut last Saturday's party (Zumba class) short. Is that some serious "rain don't stop the Carnival" spirit or what?! We got it done with great cooperation by all. We don't call this place "Rock City" for nothing...You rock, ladies!
On behalf of the troupe,
G.
